What about when we go swimming?

If you've used a disposable swim diaper you'll know there is nothing absorbent in it. The same goes for a cloth swim diaper. You can use your favorite cover, envelope, or pocket diaper as a swim diaper, as long as it is snug around the waist and thighs. Just don't "stuff" it with anything. Lots of sites sell Swim Diapers, pull up or wrap style diapers made especially for the pool. These are often super cute prints!

Do remember chlorine bleaches! If it's a cute cotton outer diaper you want to use, it may get bleached in a chlorine pool. Check with the pool or owner, some home pool owners use bromine (sp??) as a substitute for chlorine.

What about when we go camping?

I have known many who take cloth diapers on their camping trips. First, you need to know how long you'll be gone for. Will you have access to washing machines at a campground, or a laundromat in a town nearby? You should still wash every 2-3 days, but you can just rinse each diaper well and they will last a little longer. I've even heard of some washing diapers in a sink or bucket while camping. Also, keep in mind the weather. Very hot weather can make diapers mold. Think about all factors involved, and decide what's right for your family. You can of course choose to take disposables on your camping trip. There are healthier choices of disposables available too, such as Seventh Generation or Tushies. Look at online drugstores or local health food stores for these. Gdiapers have a biodegradeable, flushable insert with a cloth diaper like cover.

What about when we go on vacation?

This is a little bit like camping. Think about if you'll have a hotel washing machine available, a laundromat, and how often you'll need to wash. Will you be driving mostly, or in one place the whole trip? Just take a large wetbag, such as a diaper pail liner, and it's really almost as easy as at home!
